Maintaining Your Motorhome
As you know an RV is a great way to travel across the country with all the conveniences of home. You should also know that there are a number of maintenance items which are required which will help it stay running and avoid any breakdowns. The following are just a few tips to follow to help maintain your RV.
Your engine is the heart of your RV. It is very important to regularly check fluid levels and perform any service work suggested by your manufacturer’s manual. You can also decrease fuel consumption by always having your tires properly inflated.
You should be aware of the moisture level in your RV. Because of the small contained area of an RV moisture can build up quickly and be difficult to remove. If not handled properly, this could lead to mold and mildew growth and subsequent damage or even health problems. Always make sure to use your roof vent when cooking or showering. You can increase the airflow and moisture removal by opening a window.
Help keep the drains in your RV running smoothly by using some common sense. Never intentionally send things like hair or dental floss down your sinks. These are some of the biggest causes of clogged drains. Also, in the restroom throw toilet paper in the waste basket instead of flushing it. Additionally, use some type of drain cleaner once a month to help keep the drains clean and avoid clogs before they happen.
Winterizing water lines is one of the most important things you can do when preparing for the winter. Do not forget to dump sink traps to keep them from cracking.
Finally, a good RV cover can be expensive; however, it can pay for itself by eliminating many things like sun fading, wind damage, and scratches to the finish.
