Why You Should Buy A Truck Top

Truck Top

Truck toppers are car accessories that are meant to cover the back of a truck to protect that space from the elements to create a secure storage area.

Removable Toppers

Some trucks come with their own back covers but many do not. This should not be a problem because covers can be bought separately and they come in so many sizes that it is not hard to find one to fit any vehicle. Some tops can be custom made with a bit more expense. Removable tops makes it easier to take off when they are not needed. When loading larger items, the truck tops need to be taken off to accommodate load that does not fit within the dimensions of the truck. Removable tops also makes the back of the truck easier to clean and dry.

Toppers Made of Fiberglass or Canvas

Fiberglass covers are hard shells and can double as a roof. Canvas tops may be supported by a frame or can also be simple strapped onto the back to cover load and offer some protection from moisture. Canvas covers are easier to get off and strap on, they are also easier to transport, fold and store in a compact space in case of emergency uses. Fiberglass tops are large and bulky, they need at least two people to set up everytime. But they also offer a more permanent shelter and will also last longer than canvas. Fiberglass is relatively lightweight but is still cumbersome for just one person to take off and carry.

Toppers to Create More Seating Space in the Back

Fiberglass toppers with windows are made to create a shelter in the back of the truck to convert into a covered transport for animals or people. The covered tops offers your passengers protection from the sun and wind. Window makes sure they get adequate ventilation and are comfortable. You can also attach seats or benches to the back of the truck to make it more comfortable for long rides. Some of these tops are really beautiful and blend seamlessly with the finishing of your truck, making the truck look more like an SUV when attached to the back. The windows look like car windows that slide open or lift up. With these classy tops, convert your truck into an SUV and back again as needed by the occasion.

Note on Security

Whichever tops you choose to equip your truck, whether to secure storage or extend the seating space of your vehicle, make sure that the tops is secure. Fiberglass and aluminum tops should have locks. You should be able to lock the windows from the inside and the back opening is secured with a key. Even when you do not consider the back of a truck as “inside” the vehicle, you might be using the space for storage that you want to keep from getting lost or stolen. Ropes can be used to secure canvas tops too but do not leave your truck alone for too long because canvas can be slashed.
