Select the Right Mechanic

Sometimes, it is a nightmare for car owners when they think about the cost that is involved in repairing a car and in its maintenance. In addition to this, car owners are not completely sure about the value-addition the mechanic adds to their cars. Based on this, it is very important to find the right mechanic who is reliable and can be trusted completely. Some of the tips for choosing the right mechanic for the job are-

Talking To Friends and Family

The first step is to talk to the members of the family and friends who are staying in that particular area and find out if they can recommend any mechanic in the area. A good recommendation is very reliable because it comes from a friend or family member who values their relationship with the person who is looking for a recommendation.

Authenticity Approval/Accreditation

If the friends and the family are not available to provide a strong recommendation, the individual can look for an ATA (Automotive Technician Accreditation) or ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) or manufacturer approval. These certification and accreditation approves the authenticity of the mechanics. This helps immensely in hiring the best mechanic who provides the highest quality service in a particular area.

Small Experimental Tests

If an individual is skeptical about a mechanic, he/she can first give the mechanic small tasks like fixing minor issues. This ensures that the individual is taking the entire job slow and taking his/her time to evaluate the mechanic. The bigger tasks can be assigned once the individual is happy with the performance in the smaller tasks. If he/she is unhappy with the quality of service, the individual can move to the next best mechanic who is available.

Comparing Different Prices

To trust a mechanic, the individual should be able to ensure that he is receiving excellent value for the money he is investing in his repairs. The individual should obtain multiple quotes from different mechanics in the area. Compare the quotes and the different services and exercise double caution to ensure that they are not being cheated.

Thoroughly Reading Online Reviews

Since many of the mechanics run small businesses, not all of them will have their own dedicated websites. Hence, the individual should conduct a research online and take a look at all the customer’s reviews that are available before taking an informed decision. If the business has a positive feedback online, then it is most likely that the business is trustworthy.

Insurance and Licensing

The mechanic should be completely insured before he is hired to take up a particular task. If the mechanic is not insured, the customer is at the risk of paying up in the case of any kind of damages. One more risk is that the mechanic should be completely covered i.e. he should hold a non-expired insurance. Along with the insurance, the other factor that plays a role is the license that is provided by governmental authorities to carry out tasks related to automobiles.

If the auto mechanic carries out a faulty repair, a recourse is possible. Every state has its own set of laws about the course of action that can be taken. If the car owner is facing trouble in finding the right resolution, a case can be filed in the small claims court and fight can be carried out for the customer rights. The only disadvantage here is that the burden for proof lies with the customer and sometimes it gets challenging to prove the damages that have been caused to the vehicle. If you are left with no option, a bad review can be written for the particular mechanic online.
