Car Won't Start Clicking Noise

A car won’t start clicking when you first get it. It may seem like just an issue with the car, but rest assured that the issue is much bigger. A no crank means that the car has suffered a serious problem internally and requires repair or replacement. However, despite all indications, there are several kinds of clicking noise a car might produce especially when a no-start comes about. Let’s discuss some of them here.

  • This could mean that your car’s ignition key is stuck halfway into the ignition. When this happens you would not be able to get your car to start at all. This could also mean that your ignition key is out of reach. If it’s the latter, then your car needs to be towed away to a workshop for repair or replacement. But as a precaution, it would help if you double-check that the key is still in your grasp.
  • A frozen starter motor is one of the things that could cause this kind of problem. The starter motor usually is the part of the car that “pulls” the car towards its direction of movement. When this motor stops working, the car will have difficulty in starting which can be quite alarming. You will be able to test whether your car’s starter motor is frozen by unplugging the vehicle from an outlet and listening to a whining sound.
  • The frozen starter solenoid is another thing that could be causing this kind of irritating sound. When the car isn’t running, the solenoid releases a sudden pressure which causes the car not to engage in any kind of motion. If the clicking sounds when you press the accelerator are accompanied by electric sparks, then you will need to replace the starter. Check the part that is leaking and find out if you can easily find it with the help of your mother-in-law.
  • Another very common problem that is associated with the starter is a high resistance between the spark plugs and the cables. The high resistance causes the spark plugs to be unable to produce enough heat that is needed for the vehicle’s ignition to function. This is one of the main reasons why the clicking noise occurs. To fix this one, you should find out if the cables and plugs are made of good quality material or not. There are high resistance cables out there that are sold at low prices, so don’t worry if you can’t locate them in the local car parts store.

A car won’t start because of a loose connection between the battery and the starter. This is usually not a serious problem and is often caused by poor installation practices. You should check if you have installed the car kit properly, or at least inquire from the seller if the installation was properly done.
