Makita Tools

Makita is a one hundred-year-old tool company. The company manufactures consumer as well as professional power tools. In fact, it has grown so successful that it commands fifty percent of the professional power tools market share.

History

Makita was founded on March 21, 1915 in Anjo, Japan. Originally, it was an electric motor sales and repair company. Ever since the 1880s, the electric motor has been the preferred external power source for power tools. So, the shift from electric motor sales to power tool manufacturer makes perfect sense.

In November 1959, Makita shifted to manufacturing electric power tools. Makita Melbourne exports were the first exports made by the corporation as they shifted to an international power tool corporation.

The following year, a new main plant was constructed to handle the new volume of business.

In April of 1969, Makita produced the 6500D battery powered drill. This drill was the first rechargeable power tool ever produced. Tools up to this point either used disposable batteries or plugged into an electric socket.

In December of 1978, Makita once again revolutionized power tools with the release of the 6010D rechargeable drill. This tool was the first power tool to utilize a nickel cadmium battery.

In August of 1993, the company introduced the 6213D power drill, which was the first to utilize a nickel hydride battery. These batteries are smaller, more powerful, and more stable than nickel-cadmium batteries.

In February of 2005, just a month before its ninety-year anniversary, Makita introduced the TD130D, the first lithium-ion battery powered drill. Lithium-ion batteries are one of the most advanced battery constructions on the market today.

Outdoor Power Tools

Makita produces indoor and outdoor power tools. Outdoor tools are typically powered by gasoline or electricity. Gasoline motors are a dirtier source of energy, so they are only applicable for outdoor use.

Typical outdoor implements are chainsaws, edgers, hedge trimmers, brush cutters, and pole saws. These are typically used to control growth in private and commercial settings. Homeowners use these tools to mow their lawns, trim trees and cut away unwanted vegetation.

Cordless Equipment

Cordless equipment is very versatile. Since these implements use batteries or gasoline motors, they can be taken just about anywhere. Petrol burning tools, obviously cannot be used indoors but, for their outdoor applications, you can go much farther than corded varieties. With corded tools, you must always be aware of how far you are from an outlet and how long your extension cord is. With a cordless tool, you are free to go wherever you want. This is obviously an advantage when clearing brush far away from any outlet.

Reliability

Power tools come in many varieties, uses, and designs. How do you know which company to trust when you need to buy tools? What will happen if the tool you buy malfunctions? Will the company who sold you the implement still exist in a few years? Witha onehundred-year-old company, you know that they have a proven track record. You can trust that what you are buying is backed by hundreds of years of reliable service.
